Topic: Jetpack-powered Plugin Development by Beau Lebens
Let’s dive into the deep end of plugin development. We’ll use some of the more advanced techniques used in building Jetpack (http://jetpack.me) to illustrate things like how to interact with external services, custom XML-RPC implementations, internationalization and more. Bring your hard hat, this will be a code-heavy, technical session!

Beau is a web developer who hails from Australia, but lives in San Francisco. He’s been working on the web since about 1996 and developing PHP/MySQL systems since 2000. He has been involved in a variety of technical enterprises ranging from an exclusively-online division at a University to a niche Search Engine Marketing firm, with a short stint building an online scrapbooking network for parents. Interested in all things social, tech and web-related, Beau holds a degree in online community, culture and governance, and spends most of his time these days hacking WordPress and related web apps for Automattic.

Developer Day on Sunday

Great news!  We’ve secured a room for Sunday for a Developer Day for WordCamp Orange County. Admission to the Developer Day is included in the General Ticket price.  So if you’ve already purchased your ticket, you are in; if not, what the dickens are you waiting for?

The Developer Day will be a very informal gathering for attendees to come and exchange ideas, test new found knowledge, meet even more people and nerd it up just a bit more (because one day is never enough).

The Developer Day room will be in the same building as the camp, so if you come on Saturday, you’ll know where to go on Sunday.  We may not be able to cover the price of parking for Sunday as well, but there is some free parking nearby.  We’ll try to scope that out for you ahead of time.  So, bring your laptops, your ideas and your willingness to share.

Raffle Items: WordPress Books!

Last year we were really excited when Wiley decided to donate a few books for us to give away in our raffle. This year, they’re coming through for us again. They’ve actually increased their donation and are generously offering more than twice as many books (of our choosing) from their Wrox library. I picked up a copy of their newest book the other day, Professional WordPress Plugin Development by Brad Williams, Ozh, and Justin Tadlock the other day and let me tell you, it’s awesome. Thank you Wiley/Wrox for donating this little slice of awesome.

Raffle Items: WP Jewelery!

Anika and everyone from wpjewels.com love WordPress.  So much so, they wear it on their sleeves.  Actually, they wear it on their ears and necklaces.  They were kind enough to send us a few pieces of jewelery for us to give away in our end-of-day raffle.

Our Venue – Chapman University

Many thanks to Chapman University in Orange, CA. They have been working hard with us to help put on a great camp.

We’ll be using Kennedy Hall’s classrooms for our lectures and it’s surrounding areas for eating, meeting and milling about. Parking is in an adjacent building. Seating for lunch will be limited, so be prepared to find a nice grassy area and have yourself a little picnic.
